This is yet another poem that sprung out of a simple rhyme (the first two lines) and then wrote itself, with my involvement being more that of a spectator than that of an author. I've written quite a few quasi-philosophical/ political/ polemical poems but I'm always nervous about sounding too earnest or preachy or divisive or something so I don't tend to put them up here. I think this one just about remains uncontroversial enough to make the cut.
Fossil fuel
It’s possible,
That fossil fuel,
Will kill us all.
We’re smart enough,
To know the stuff,
Is harming us.
But we’ll all wait,
Till it’s too late,
To change our fate.
It’s no surprise,
We close our eyes,
While oceans rise.
But, goddamnit,
If we don’t ban it,
We’ll cook the planet.
